Sneak Peek

I wanted to put together a sneak peek before I actually launch my Etsy store. Please remember to tell your friends and may God reward you for helping a sister out :)

ALSO when I launch the Etsy store, shipping will be free and tax will be included in the price. SO insha'allah you find something you like and it will be really easy to order. I was thinking of having a contest of some sort so Insha'allah shoot me an email if you have any ideas, nurivintage@gmail.com I would love to hear from you.

***Disclaimer: I know my style is not for everyone. This is for those muslimah's and other modest young women that like to look a little different and have a clean conscience with recycled fashion***

With that said, When the Etsy store is launched, I hope you find something you like. I am also open to requested items and sizes. nurivintage@gmail.com

I will post a few more pictures soon. Thanks so much for looking and telling your friends :)

Still on the hunt

Yes, I am still on the hunt for vintage finds. Thank goodness I have a second opinion when it comes to things. I tend to get a little over excited when it comes to pieces. However, I did find an amazing vintage bracelet.

My good friend also dropped by with some items for me. One of the items was this really interesting scarf? I am not sure what exactly it is, but I love it. I wouldn't wear it as a scarf because of the tassels, but I did find an excellent use for it. It definitely does bring a vintage feel to my little love seat. I need to match some pillows to it though to bring it all together. I love it, thanks Shash Sha.

Also, my friend and I were talking about how ridiculous it would be if there were customizable 3D glasses. I thought it would be funny to have your individuality expressed on 3D glasses. So, I made some of my own. Here is the result.

Yesterday I we went and got more art supplies so I was able to finish painting this piece.

Visual Dhikr

I may not be the best painter but I love to do it and it brings me joy. I would suggest painting to anyone and everyone. Personally, the best time for me is in the morning, before and after Fajr. Here are some things I've been working on.

I just started trying to get into Arabic and playing with shaping the letters. Keep in mind I don't know Arabic or know calligraphy. Any error is my error.

First piece

The Guide
2010. Acrylic and Ink on rice paper, 9 3/4" X 4 7/8"
I really love the texture and earthy feeling of the rice paper. Unfortunately, the texture made it a little hard to keep my lines even.

God is Great
2010. Acrylic on Canvas, 6" X 8"
God is Great in the shape of a heart. This one was a little tricky and took me a while to figure out the letters and how I could form them into a heart.

Allah
2010. Acrylic on Canvas 9" X 11 1/2" WORK IN PROGRESS
NOTE TO SELF: Don't start a project with very little white and yellow paint left.
I've been thinking a lot about basic patterns and how they can instead be looked at as dhikr. This is a really fun, vintage inspired piece. Vintage inspired in the color choices. I was greatly inspired to try out patterns as Dhikr because of a group I saw on Facebook called something along the lines of Beleiving in God Doesn't have to be boring. Forgive my sense of humor.

Bismillah Sketch
Again playing off the above mentioned.
Plaid pattern, yet to be painted. Insha'allah I will get more paints soon.

I can't help but think that my photo album is inspired by the intricate Islamic patterns.

Introduction

Welcome to nuri vintage.
This blog is designated to not only showing pieces that will eventually be for sale, but also my own personal blog.

Where I was:
Lost, undirected and just wobbling through the dance of life. On a search to figure out something, that I didn't know I was looking for.

(Some finds, 60's inspired dress and vintage herringbone pants)

Where I am now:
Inspired. Deeply inspired by my life going around me. I married my love, and we are living together in Oakland California. I embraced Islam and we have become part of a wonderful community. There are a few projects in the works right now. The first, nuri vintage. Second, becoming a certified Doula and Doula trainer. Third, working on my paintings and developing my creative expression. Forth, working on photography. Fifth, develop my cooking skills. Sixth and most importantly, strengthening my connection to God.

(Tree bark is fascinating to me)

Where I want to be:
Accomplishment in all of the above.
Insha'allah.

I will be updating with my progress and experience in all of the above.

I look forward to being back very soon with some vintage finds for you.
